Remove the dresser lid drawer. Unscrewing any side slides, a raised center rail, stops or anything that controls the movement of the drawers inside the chest of drawers. Fill the holes for the screws with wood putty, using a spatula. Sand the patched areas soft when the padding is dry. Sand the dresser all lightly, if you plan to paint. Measure the inside area of a base or platform, if necessary. Cut the custom base of 1/2 inch plywood, using a saw or circular saw. Cut the plywood shelf in half widthwise. Place each half through the drawer openings to put them in place.
Cut cable holes in the back of the dresser, if you plan to have electronics, such as a satellite receiver and a video player on the platform, using the saw hole. The entire support, inside and out, using semi-gloss paint and a 4-inch roller after applying a coat of primer, if the hairdresser has a shiny stain or finish varnish. Use a 1-inch angular brush to reach the corners and grooves.
